Maxtor one touch mini4 usb problem

  segdef 21:35 06 Nov 2008

I have an 80g Maxtor one touch mini 4 and I have damaged the usb connector into the hard drive. Does the hard drive have a standard mini 5 pin usb female connector? I have purchased 3 new cables, all with a male mini usb 5 pin connector and they won't connect - they are the same size as the female opening on the hardrive. Is this a proprietary usb? If not, what on earth is happening that I can't plug in the new lead? Very frustrating!!

...or something. Who knows?
I'm experiencing a missing drive issue at present and have resorted so far to actually removing the 2.5" drive from its enclosure (very simply done) so as to access its SATA out and power jack with a Universal Drive Adaptor. Seems to me your easiest fix is to get a new enclosure. Not a difficult task at all. I'm a novice and did it.
I'm thinking, but can't be positive, that a standard usb to mini is 'standard' and will work if the input jack itself isn't damaged, which is too easily done.
