My computer recently became affected with a fake virus alert software phishing for credit card details and blocking everything else I tried to do. After some searching on another computer I was fortunately able to clear it by downloading Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware on another computer and running it on the infected one. However, I am concerned that this attack got through despite my computer running up to date McAfee AV software. As the McAfee subscription is soon due for renewal I would appreciate any advice as to whether to renew McAfee or if another AV software may be more effective.
My thinking is any free anti-virus program and a pay for anti-malware program.
You can pick up Emisoft for £16 or even Malwarebytes pro version both use full time protection and will usually stop the nastie's from downloading on to your computer.
