making pics smaller size wise

  johnnyrocker 12:14 18 Nov 2007

i might not have put the post too clearly but i have some holiday pics my friend sent me, on looking this morning they are 1.1 meg or so each in size with the folder taking up 213 meg in size, others in another folder come to a couple of hundred k, my question is how do i start to alter the size so it takes up less space? i have xp sp2 and irfanview but not a clue how to go about it.

Irfanview is free and has excellent reduction capabilities - click here

Depending on how much you want to resize them you could try the Windows Powertoy Image resizer from click here
Once installed when you right click on an image the resize image option is there with three standard options and a custom option.
If you select a group of images it will do them all at once.

Sorry old age creeping in word blindness.

Open your picture go to Image > Resize/Resample.

Then in the Set New Size box change the width setting the height will automatically resize

Johnny, try this excellent program.

I have produced 3 resize icons of PhotoResize400, PhotoResize600 and PhotoResize1000. Each one is only 300KB and they are kept together in a folder.
This covers most of my requirements.

The original pictures can be left untouched.
Try it and see what you think. You may be pleasantly surprised.
