Major headache with sound drivers

  LeeHamo 17:49 02 Mar 2012

Hi all,

I have aquired an old Advent 7104 laptop that was in a bad state of affairs so basically I wiped it and installed windows 7, managed to get the wireless drivers then fully updated windows and all other drivers apart from the sound card.

Reports suggest that its a realtek ac97 but ive tried installing various versions and nothing works, other suggestions are that its a cmedia ac97 audio card which again seems to fail.

There is no recovery partition on the computer so im a bit stuck now, a laptop without sound is useless to me.

If anyone can help me sort this problem out id be eternally grateful as ive been messing with this problem for about 4 months with no luck,

Much abliged,

According to this UKT Support it has Conexant AC-Link sound

You could try this one to see if it works.

You may have to go to audio once downloaded to allow it to run.

Or try Services and make sure Windows audio is set to automatic.

If you cant fix it you could consider a USB sound card:

Or one of these much better than the speakers on my Vaio!

Buteman I tried yours and it says sorry, the install wizard cant find the proper component for the current platform. please press k to terminate the install wizard.

How do i try services to make sure audio is automatic?

I had this machine sometime ago. Same problem with sound.

If you google SIS go to their website and download audio driver 7012, should work. Worked for me for a long time until I scrapped the laptop. Good luck.
