Mail Merge Problems

I am having difficulties in getting my Excel addrdess list to merge into Word 2003 to print labels. Previously in Word XP (2002) it worked fine but since upgrade it won't!!
I need to filter out some addresses and when using the wizard it appears that there are 2 oppotunities to do this. In both cases I deselect everything and then just select what I want but when I merge to a new document the whole sheet gets merged and I have 700 pages in the document!
Is there a glitch or am I not doing something right? Help!!
