lsass.exe virus removal

Just wondered if anyone could help.

On boot up my laptop displays the message "lsass.exe system error. Object name not found"

If I click ok then it reboots and repeats the process. It does the same thing in safe mode. Going back to the previous best configuration will not work.

I have tried using a Norton boot disk but this does not correct the problem. I have also tried reloading windows but this does not work.

If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful as I don't really want to format my hard drive.

Dear Fruit Bat

I attempted to re-install windows using the recovery disk I got with the laptop as per your link but I chose to repair a windows installation rather than setup XP now.

So I'll try the latter and see what happens.

Thanks.

I have reloaded XP using the CD and now the laptop works but it is VERY slow.

Is there a reason why this should be?
