Low Virtual Memory warning ?

I have just booted my duel booting PC into windows XP and was at another forum when everything froze.
I relaxed awhile thinking windows was just being windows.....again.
I eventually managed to close the browser, and thought I should defrag, whilst defragging a warning notice popped up saying Virtual Memory was low and some things would be unavailable while windows sorted it out.....paraphrased.
I then attempted to restart, first the normal way and then by ctrl alt delete, after a long wait an irregular notice with drop down choices opened to close down, restart or hibernate.
When the PC rebooted much the same occurred.

Am I infected ? How can I sort this problem out ?
I am now using Ubuntu, which appears OK apart from a change to resolution.

Many thanks in advance.

I have sorted it out myself.
I posted my question before a search.
Found the query already answered.

Far too impatient, must try harder in future, so sorry.

Virtual Memory is the Free Space on your Hard Drive, windows is allowed to work in. Sounds like your Hard Drive as not enough free space clear some stuff off it
