lost files after cut and paste

Hi all

At work we have laptops connected wirelessly to a general drive which we save files to.
A friend has cut and pasted some word and excel files from one folder to another. The copying completed box came up. However the original files have gone and are not in new location - also they do not come up after a search of file names.

Any ideas how to get them back? all laptops are windows xp professional

Go to your Back-up ~ asap!

Unless you have special software, they are, almost certainly, gone as only one is stored in memory at a time.

copy not cut them back to where they came from?

Are you sure that he pasted them where he thought. A search of the Storage Drive may discover them in another Folder.
