Lost Data and PC Inspector

I recently, on the advice of a technical helpline, used the system restore disks to put my pc back to shop condition, unfortunately I had my external drive connected and it was also restored to shop condition :-(

I have run PC Inspector to try and recover the data, it finds 9000+ files which I have saved to my laptop. The problem is the files mean nothing to me. The filenames are all eg 'cluster 19168.exe'(or doc etc)with a filesize of 1474560.The date modified is 00.00.1980 00:00 and the MTF entry for each fie is -1.

How do I decipher this and get my disk back to normal? Windows had not been installed on the external drive but PC Inspector seemed to find a lot of windows update files.

You will be amazed on what it finds.

Thanks. Got it sorted. I used a prog called Ontrack Easy Recovery Pro v6.0. I found all my files and named them correctly. I didn't have any work to do except copy them back to the removeable disc.
