Losing connection whenever computer is turned off

I've recently changed my broadband provider from Virgin to talktalk. I used a wireless connection for both, and never had any issues previously.

I'm now finding that whenever I start up my computer it will connect, but will say that it can only make a local connection. In order to get it working properly I have to turn off the router then restart it. This seems to allow the computer to connect to the internet again. The connection then stays solid up until I next shut down the computer or put it on standby, when I have to repeat the process.

I also connect an xbox 360 to the same router. This connects every time without issue.

Anyone got any ideas of what I'd need to do to get round the problem?

Are you using Windows "Vista", because this tends to be a very common issue with that version of Windows? If so, see if this article click here helps, although it does involve going into the registry.

Ok, I tried doing that, but I think I probably failed at the first hurdle. In the 'manage network connections' screen I have two options

1. Broadband connection, which shows as disconnected.
2. Local area connection, which shows as unplugged.

Which would I need to alter?

Actually, forget my last post. I managed to find the wireless adapter in the system settings and have now sorted it.

Thanks for the advice!
