I get messages every time I boot up - having used some CD Roms from Windows 3.1/95 days, my new XP system throws up messages saying that it can't find longpathname.exe. There are entries in the registry. Any experience of this?

Start then Run type in

and click ok

Go to winini and untick longpathname.exe

Restart the pc

If it causes any problems with the old programs then retick it.

I have the same problem on my dual boot PC. both drives use XP Pro. 'D' drive is O/K but 'C' gives the "can't find" message.
I have tried to find the entry in 'winini' but it does not appear to be there. The only expandables are for; Mail; Mci extensions.BAK; and MAPI 1.0 time zone. Any further ideas please?
