Hard wired ADSL Gateway with 4 Port Switch
Model AG041

I purchased a Linksys AG041 ADSL Gateway with 4 Port Switch about 2 / 3 years ago from Maplins.

Because I was hit by a security scare some time back I changed the passwords, but I've forgoten now what I have changed them to.

Using the re-set button I have gone back to the factory defaults. I can get into the router using admin and admin on 192.168.1.1

But when I attempt to change things in there like RFC 2364 its asking for a user name and password that I know I may well have changed but like a plonker I can't remember what I changed this to now. I am currently using an internal modem PCI DSL card, but its really slow compared to the Linksys which I want back

Can you please help me at all, I guess I need somehow get back to complete Factory defaults and start from scratch, By the way I have tried the method decribed in the wor doc on the Linksys forum which did reset the first User name and password, but for some reason will not by pass the password which will allow me to change things like encapsulation. I know I may be talking the talk, but not sure what I'm talking about tho.

Things I have done: Using the rear re-set button

Clicking on re-set within the software within 192.168.1.1

Thank you very much for any help.

Hello Rapscallion Thank you for your reply :-)

Yep I did a search on the Linksys WS and found out you must do that.
I held the re-set in for about a minute with both the router turned on, and then again with it powered down. No joy whosoever I'm afraid.

I'm wondering now if theres a jumper inside which will re-set all, to defaults.

Sorry that didn't work,it might be worth a phone call to Linksys,I know when I had a problem I had trouble solving one Sunday morning,a tech person guided me through.Problem solved.
The number is (800) 326-7114

Rapscallion. Yeah!!
Thanx for your help!! Problem solved.
I spoke with Linksys in both India, and later on, the Philippines to be honest, they more confused than both you & me. They said this password box shouldn't be coming up, at this stage of the procedure. Being a big hammer person I decided to format the PC and start over again from scratch. Hooray!!!!!!
After the format the damned router let me in.
I dunno why, but a Result...
Thank you very much :-)
