Trying to re-install Reader, but the installation keeps halting. Maybe I'm downloading from the wrong place.

I'll try that one.

Try foxit reader. It's smaller, compact, reads all pdf's and doesn't crash like adobe.

Mission accomplished. Never known a program give my hard drive such a thrashing - it woke the cat up.

Sorry, missed your post. I'll certainly give foxit a try. I uninstalled Adobe 'cus it was giving me grief, but I needed to read a pdf file.

Try PDF-Xchange Viewer - more functions than Adobe Reader & Foxit and free too! click here

Thanks, Foxit will do for now.

Adobe Reader uninstalled again, the hard drive activity even when it's not running is unbelievable. It slows everything down.

My Adobe kept trying to update and was using 100% all the time but never fully updated. Adobe forums said it was the update manager. Computer slowed to a crawl. Should have had Foxit reader before as that works fine.
