Left over files - how to find

  TomG 22:05 06 Jan 2006

I've uninstalled Norton Antivirus 2005 - and replaced it with another product. When I defragged my hard drive it said it couldn't complete because of two files - \RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00006987 and \RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00006988.

I've tried to find these two files (by using search and enabling "find hidden files" (etc) but no luck. Any idea hoe I get rid of these two giles?

These are in your Recycle Bin - the Norton protected one I suspect.

Trouble is that as I've uninstalled NAV there isn't a protected bin any more

Thanks for the suggestion Graham - I am considering this but I have a couple of other Symantec programs that I don't want to get rid of - I know I can reinstall them afterwards but want to see if there is an simpler solution, you would have thought that as part of the uninstallation process that NAV would have advised that these two files exsisted and what did I want to do with them. I've mailed a question about this problem to Symantec support to see what they suggest.
Thanks again for the suggestion.

Norton make it difficult for a virus to stop it working. Parts of it are sprinkled deep in the Registry to this end. This is why only Symantec know how to remove all the bits.

Seems they don't - they instructed me to uninstall all Symantec programs, run a couple of tools and all will be well.

No - files are still there!
