Are laser printers any good at printing photos on glossy paper?

  pj123 15:14 12 Feb 2006

Depends on the spec of the laser printer. Some may be OK some may not be due to the heat on the drum.

What laser printer do you have, or are contemplating?

NEVER use ordinary computer photo paper in a laser printer. The surface of photopaper is either gelatine or a synthetic polymer both of which can easily melt from the heat of the fuser roll used to seal the laser toner to the paper. Result? One kaput printer.

As ph123
Heat is the fixing medium,
Suspect therefore specially formulated paper is a requirement.
Normal InkJet glossy has a resin coating - may not like the heat.

I've got an Oki 5450

According this spec then NO. It will not accept Photo Glossy paper.

Theres an article about Laser printers in the April 2006 PC Advisor magazine. Mine arrived yesterday by post but I don't think it's in the shops yet but should be soon
