"Place" in what way? As a download or as visible content?

First off, do not consider embedding .doc or .pdf files into web pages: include the text in your markup in the usual manner or make it available as a file download. Secondly, text-based files should always by in either a plain text format (.txt) or a Portable Document Format (.pdf). The provide a link to the download location of a good PDF reader such as Foxit for the convenience of your visitors.

Have a look at Writer, which is the word processor from the excellent free OpenOffice suite.

"Make your documents freely available with WRITER's HTML export to the web, or publish in Portable Document Format (.pdf) to guarantee that what you write is what your reader sees."

for wanting to keep the text in Word .doc format I advise you to upload a PDF.
