when doing a spreadsheet using very large currency figures (over ten trillion pounds!!!), excel does not calculate exactly. it seems to round off. does anyone know how to force it to give exact calculations?

There is a limit to the number of significant figures that Excel can hold. I ca'nt remember what it is offhand. This is probably why you are getting rounding errors.

further to VoG's observation you may be able to get round the rounding error problem by formatting the column(s) into "Scientific Notation" which will enable you to use more signicant numbers, raised to the necessary power (13 for 10s of trillions if I remember correctly). You would not be able to display the currency format in the column but would get round that by labelling your column with the relevant currency header).

Excel has a nunber precision limit of 15 figures, according to it's help file.
