Laptop won't detect wireless network?

I have 2 laptops, one with built-in wireless network card and one with push-in-type wireless network card, that connect to the internet through an adaptec wireless router and NTL broadband. Both have been fine (after some teething problems, sorted out thanks to this forum) and have been working ok for weeks.

All of a sudden, one laptop (the one with the push-in card) won't detect the wireless network. I have tested the card in the other laptop by disabling the built-in wireless thing and it can connect ok, so it seems to be a problem with the other laptop. But i haven't changed any settings (too scared to after taking days to set the thing up), so why would it suddenly stop working?

I have disabled norton personal firewall and this makes no difference. Windows firewall is also disabled.

That normally rectifies problems with dropping out, or if not.. Update firmware and drivers on cards.
