laptop to tv connection problem

i have a e-system 1210 laptop and a samsung plasma ps42b430p2wxxu tv. my laptop has a vga output and my tv has scart, hdmi and component input.....help! ive tried connecting the two with a lead that has vga and component connections but nothing. my tv just says no signal

You need to set your Display Adapter Driver for Dual Display,if it supports it. Right click desktop\Settings\Advanced\Adapter you should have dual monitors showing in it some place, check around

i have tried this but it didnt do anything. the tv was still displaying no signal

i was wondering if i am using the correct lead/s or do i need to change any other settings?

Does your TV not have a VGA input ?

that is the exact lead that i bought and are trying to use. i select the component source channel on the tv but the problem staeted above occurs....no signal

Just another suggestion -You may need to switch over to an external monitor on your laptop. Some computers have a function key (mine is Fn Key + F5) but consult your manual for the correct combination. Usually listed under external monitor in the index. Hope this helps.

i have tried this northumbria61 but when i do my screen goes blank but nothing happens with the tv, it still states no signal.
