Laptop sound gone

The sound (input & output) was working fine on my HP6152 laptop last week - Skype working fine; today - nothing. It works with the external speakers (haven't tried a microphone). I've checked volume control, mute, audio devices etc - all seems fine. System restore won't work, so I can't just roll it back to last week. Any ideas?

Hi stp, some laptops have a button you can prs to mute the sound on it or turn it up and down. Have you hit this by mistake? On my Acer laptop I have a blue Fn button next to my Windows key. Have you something similar?

Acer again....F8 button is also the mute/unmute button.

Have you looked in your manual or online at the website for your laptop?

Thanks, Mike - tried those! I've now tried it with an external mic, and it works fine. So external mic & speakers - no problem; internal mic & speakers - nothing.

Check device manager for exclamation mark against your sound drivers.

hi stp, Try Start\All_Programs\Control_Panel\Sounds_and_Audio_Devices........... click on Advanced button on the speaker settings and select your setup.
Also click Speaker Volume button and check that out.

Try system restore in safe mode.
