laptop repair

  monkeyspunk 09:34 19 Nov 2005

my laptop has broken, it's a Toshiba Satellite S3000x11.
The problem is that, ive shut down the computer manual and after it goes through the disc checking the screen goes blank and nothing happens, the laptop is still on and it is still trying to do something but nothing will happen. I ve left it like this for hour but nothing.
Can you help me?

Can you reboot it (should be a reboot button somewhere) and press F5 until you get a menu? Then from there choose "safe mode".

If that does not work, does it have a connector for an external monitor? You may be able to connect one up.

This may not apply in your case, but if it's "broken" you MAY find your house contents insurance policy covers it! Friend of mine had a broken screen on his laptop; I got info for him from this Forum re possible repairs and he eventually got it done via his insurance for just the £50 excess.

Press and hold the start button, it will shut down. Then try a reboot

I had this in the past with my Toshiba. Only when I re-installed Windows did the problem resolve itself.

It did load into safe mode, and I suspected that something had gone amiss with the graphic driver.
