Good Morning, I have a Dell XPS M1530 and well I have started to notice a problem with increasing and decreasing the brightness. Its strange because I have never experienced anything like it before. The problem is whenever I change the brightness, an application called Windows Live Messenger opens as well. This is getting rather frustrating now and I would like to know how to stop this from happening.

Thank you all in advance.

Is it perchance something to do with your Power Plan?

It sounds as if you do not use WLM in which case just remove it.

For Microsoft Windows XP

1. In the notification area of the taskbar, click the Messenger icon, and then click Exit.
2. On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
4. Under Currently installed programs, click Windows Live Messenger, and then click Remove.
5. Click Yes.

For Windows Vista

1. In the notification area of the taskbar, click the Messenger icon, and then click Exit.
2. On the taskbar, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
3. Under Programs, click Uninstall a program.
4. Double-click Windows Live Messenger.
5. Click Yes.
