laptop power problem

My daughter has a Toshiba laptop. The charger charges the battery up ok, but even with the mains lead in it dies after a couple of hours. So it seems that when used the mains lead does nothing. Any ideas please. Ive had a glance at power management settings but all seems normal.

How long does the battery last when fully
charged.

With normal use about 2hrs

Is the mains lead and charger 2 separate units?

Forgive me if I ask a stupid question here as I don't have a laptop. Can you run a laptop without a battery in it? I mean just use the mains cable.

Big Elf
One combined mains lead/charger/adaptor

Never tried,but I wouldn't think so. I'll try though.

Ive googled this prob. and it seems that the adaptor has enough power to charge the battery but not to run the laptop. I'll have to find a friend with a same voltage adaptor and see if that works. If not there must be an internal problem.
Cheers

Yes you can use a laptop without its battery fitted.

I think you have a faulty battery, Try running just on mains

  woodchip 22:38 22 Dec 2005

That means take the battery out

  hzhzhz 23:04 22 Dec 2005

Hey Thanks for that, I'll take it out shortly. That should tell me something.

Well, after taking the battery out and using it with mains adaptor, it stayed on for about 15 seconds then went off. Tried again and same happened.
