laptop memory upgrade

Daughter has a 2 yr old Evesham laptop that is fitted with 256mb of DDR 2700 SODIMM RAM. It's running slow, so would like to upgrade. Evesham are sending me a 512mb card - can this go in as well as the 256 or instead of (there are 2 slots on the mobo(. Thanks, Richard

You can add the new stick of RAM to the 256mb stick already installed. You may find that it is necessary to put the new stick in the first slot for it to work correctly.

Hi, run the scan on your daughter's laptop, only takes a few moments, this will then tell you all you need to know about memory directly related to her particular setup.

Technotiger - thanks, we ran that - results a bit confusing. If, as Kestrel says, 512 can be mixed with the existing 256 (but changing the position of the 256) then she should be OK - thanks.

I have found in the past that small memory goes in first slot or it will not see it all

Thanks Woodchip - I'll try them both ways!
