laptop lan card

Hello guys,
I have an acer laptop am trying to connect to an already set up Lan.other laptops connects automatically when i connect the network cable but this particular acer laptop does not.i have set the ip address to automatic as i do to the others and they work except this one.
In 'my network places' the card shows only wireless and i dont see any lan.i was told by a friend to download a Lan drivers for it.Plaese is that true?and if not how do i rectify it?

Connection appear in device manager?

If yes, it may be disabled in the BIOS, or by your operating system.

Control Panel>device manager, scroll to network card right click choose properties, check if enabled, if not click enable.
