Im giving my old laptop to my brother so decided to do a fresh install of xp. Booted from cd fine, formatted hdd, went through the setup process as far as when it asks you to select a user name, and thats IT!

Cant type anything! The keyboard works to get into bios and worked through all of the setup process (when it ask your regional settings etc.), just nothing on this screen. Any ideas?

using battery power instead of mains can stop some drivers loading properly, try with lappy connected to mains...

Thanks mat. I tried it with the battery removed and plugged in and IT WORKED!....

For about 2 seconds! XP booted, I pressed the window button and the start menu opened - great! But then it stopped working again - aaarrrgghhh!

Any other ideas?

Use a PS/2 Key board to set it up

XP is setup now. But when it comes on sometimes the keyboard works and sometimes it don't! How can it be working and then not while windows is on?
