A friend has a sony laptop with a duron processor running windows 2000 pro. After booting and running for a little while it freezes. I have run check disk and defrag and removed unnecessary programs but it still freezes. I have noticed that the battery does not last very long and looking into the power options it says that the battery is at 100%, but I am not sure that the battery is any good. would this be a cause.

the battery will be charging not supplying. Try looking in msconfig I think it is in win2000. Start - run - msconfig - then go to the right hand side tab - startup and remove the tick from all the boxes except the virus checker. reboot and see if this sorts it out.

There doesnt seem to be msconfig in win2000, however i installed service pack 2 and all seems well now.
