Laptop and internet connections query

  Durko 13:48 15 Jul 2007

Thinking of investing in a laptop. What's needed if I want to surf the net if I'm away from home visiting family or friends etc as I usually use my home pc and ntl/virgin media broadband facility ?

Advice appreciated.

Most new laptops (if not all) come with wireless network adapter included, and all have LAN capability. If your family etc have broadband, you can plug the yellow cable directly into the laptop and BB will work rightaway, else you would need to connect to their wireless network, provided they have a wireless router/modem.

Or you could go to the local McDonalds, or Costa Coffee (or a host of other businesses/libraries etc) and connect to a wireless hotspot, which can be expensive, although there is a few free ones around in pubs etc. Do a goole search for 'free wireless hotspot' in the area of UK you are gonna visit.
