Laptop HDD Compressed and now having many problems

  Dearersteak 11:16 09 Mar 2003

Hay people.

My sister has a AMD 1400+ HP laptop with a 20Gb HDD along with XP home. Shes at university and she's been downloading a few big files, (700Mb each). And so in the space of a few days, filled the hard drive. From what she's told me, XP then prompted her, asking if she would like to compress the hard drive. Not being much of a computer expert, said yes. Sinces this event, she has'nt been able to surf the net, open e-mail (hotmail) and there are about a dozen other programs that are'nt playing ball. Also, a message from norton keeps poping up and then shuting the machine down before its even finshed the boot up.

What has XP done and more to the point, how do i fix it??

Any one ever de-compressed a hard drive before???

Any input welcomed

Click Start, then click My Computer.

Right-click the volume you want to compress, and then click Properties.

The option should be in the General tab.

You may well need to delete some of the larger downloaded files before you do this.
