Laptop Hard Drive Install Problems

I am trying to add a second hard drive (Western digital) to my alienware laptop. I placed it in the spare slot & booted up vista. Upon reaching the desktop, the device drivers were loaded (I didn't get any installation CD with the drive itself) without a problem & told me the drive was ready to use. It does not appear in explorer or My Computer, but does appear in device manager & in the bios screens.
Can someone please help me access my hard drive!!!

probably needs formatting, something like partition magic or similar would be able to sort it out.

Ok, hold your breath....here goes:
Boot your machine
Open control panel
Located "administrative tools" icon
Double click it
Double click the "computer management" icon
A window will open with a pane on the right hand side.
Expand the disc management entry
You should now see your new drive listed on the right as well as your old one

Right click on the listing for your new drive and choose format.

All should now be visible and ready to go.

The format process can take some time to complete so be aware of this, as the progress bar moves very slowly!

This is where you will find it on XP.

Right Click My Computer\Manage\Disc Management It will need to be made Active and Formatted
