Alienware 17 R4 2017 review
Hewllett Packard Omnibook 900,(old machine, for games and word, excel, access) windows 2000pro. after a while the fan on the laptop comes on (thats normal) I have noticed it gets very HOT. I went into task manager it states CPU usage 100%, eventhough there is nothing (only task manager) running ..?? ( my XP machine only ever goes up to 12%)
Processes 29, cpu usage 100%, mem usage 106416K/390592K
Never been on the "net" even so I have done virus scan spybot and adaware scans (just in case). the fan (outlet) vent is very small cant see any (obvious) inlet vents.
A freind suggusted I find a safe place in the casing, and drill some addtional holes for vents, (if i could find a diagram of layout of the components I am tempted)
Perhaps its a "winter warmer" machine!!!!
The temperature outside has been very warm recently and I have noticed my machines all running a bit warmer the normal. Has the machine always runa bit hot or is it a recent thing?
I'd be a bit wary of drilling holes into my laptop. Really opps I slipped and there goes the motherboard etc.
You can buy cooling pads to sit your laptop on some are fan based pads that draw power from the USB slot and there are others that are link a giant heatsink this one click here is one of the later type and here is one of the fan based types click here
That would set you back about 30 quid though.
Its always run hot, today i noticed the fan cutting in. (its cooler here in West Wales, today.
Why is the cpu at 100% (is this the source of the heat??).
Am not sure of why the CPU is running at 100% all of the time, this is why I first asked if you had checked for spyware etc.
I certainly think that the CPU running at 100% all of the time would be contributing towards the heat problem.
Prehaps you could post a list of running processes here so we can see if one of them is the culprit?
Just come home from Day center, turned laptop on . It shows 2-8% ?? (mostly 3%).
It seems the processor does get hot! will post a list of procces, when I work out how to get it from PC to PC ????? Alan
If you go to click here and download the itty bity process manager you can save a list of those running to a txt file.
Maybe a while, have to d/l on to pen drive (thos PC and transfer to laptop ??

I have just shut down laptop and pluged a PS2 mouse (like the other day) CPU Usage is very erratic going up to 40% , 100% for a second,4% up downand staying down for a while.
Perhaps I should NOT use this mouse ???
