Laptop drive problems

Hi all,

I am trying to fix my sister in laws HP Pavillion ZV6000 laptop.
The issue is that the laptop sees all discs as blank discs, even though they can be used on other systems.
The laptops is running windows vista ultimate.
I have tried to run Microsofts automated tool but that fails to install.
I am unable to run the windows disc or boot from it.

Heres hoping.

Is this the tool you tried to run? click here

There`s a manual fix towards the bottom of the instructions.

That is the same tool but a different webpage.
I will give the fix a shot and report back, many thanks.

No luck unfortunately.
It says to delete upperfilters and lowerfilters, however these do not appear in the right hand pane on my registry.
I have checked and double checked that I am in the correct string too.

"I am unable to run the windows disc or boot from it."

If you can't even boot from a CD, then the issue is not within Windows.

Sounds like the drive is faulty to me.

Remove refit DVD drive to remake connections.

try another drive if you can borrow one

Just to let everyone know I managed to resolve this by obtaining another windows cd - the fault appeared to be with the disc.
