Laptop CPU - which one

I need to replace an ageing (4yrs)Compaq NX9005 laptop. Memory, graphics, sound, disk I can figure out. I need some advice on which CPU. I will be running some basic MSoffice stuff, graphics for laying out adverts (prbably the GIMP, 2d no 3D) and an e-commerce system that uses MSaccess, java etc.

Core Duo2 cpu's seem to prevail but is the T3400 slower than the T5800, where does the T56** and T57 series fit in - and is there much difference between them all if I have suffiecient memory etc ? I ask this because I can get T3400 system for £350 or a T5800 for £400.

Thanks for the pointer Bremner. I've narrowed it down to 2 systems, both same spec , DVD, memory, O/S etc. Within £20 of each other.

Lenovo N500 T3400, Intel GMA X4500

Asus X59GL T5800, 2GHz, Nvidia 8200 share,

Any comments on quality etc of these two?
