I had a new desktop computer built by PCspecialist some years ago and am now in the market to have a laptop built in the same way. Although I used PCSpecialist previously and will be happy to use them again does anybody know of any other companies that I could compare specifications?

but your chances are low unless you are willing to offer mega-bucks.

You'll have to buy off the peg.

Away to say can't be done and thats not quite true.

It can be done but all the parts have to match so bascially what you end up buying is all the bits for what is a prebuilt machine. Say the laptop cost £500, to buy the same individual parts to build the same laptop from scratch might cost £1000 or even more.

Laptops are not upgradeable, desktops are basically made of plug together units of a standard size, laptops aren't.

My advice, forget the idea its impractical.

which will build you a customised laptop, although 'assemble' might be a better description - the machine will consist entirely of standard components assembled inside a standard chassis and case.

You'll obviously pay more for such a service, and before committing yourself I suggest that you spend some time researching the market. There are hundreds of ready-made models to choose from, and I would be very surprised indeed if you couldn't find one that suited you.
