I'm looking at a new laptop

Dell Vostro 1700
17" WUXGA Screen
Wifi abg
Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
320GB SATA 5400rpm HDD

I have £200 extra to think about

Extra 2GB RAM?
7200rpm 400GB HDD?
Better T7700 Processor?

Future proof the wireless by going for the A/B/G/N option if it is available , the extras ram will only show up to 3GB due to 32bit restrictions and you could add it later far cheaper anyway , 64bit OS will show and use all of it , but you may struggle with applications to use the extra power , if this is your only PC then the 400GB hard disk might be a bonus , shouldn't think there'd be much in it with the 7700 over the 7500 in real world . Maybe get a second battery if you plan on straying too far from a power socket , the spec looks like it would eat just one for breakfast ...

Thanks for such a prompt response. Have specced up with the 9 cell battery. Will 7200rpm HDD eat more power than 5400rpm one?

Shouldn't do , I think they are about the same , or with new technology , they might be better with power saving , hope you enjoy it , I have an Inspiron 6400 for mobile use and for when I'm setting up or problem shooting other peoples networks , and I love it !!
