keyboard not working

after a local power outage, my ps2 keyboard will not work.I looked up management services and it said unknown device (my system is windows vista)-does anyone know how to get it operative again. "I even purchased a replacement keyboard but this doesn't work either"

Was the replacement keyboard PS2 or USB? If the former, could you borrow a USB to try?

See if it works in safe mode.
If so try last good configuration or system restore.

none of this works.

Have you looked at Control Panel for the Keyboard settings to see if it has been reconised.

If you have a VISTA CD, can you run (on XP) sfc /scannow, as this will check and repair any faulty drivers, which may be causing the problem.

bigduvat i know this might sound daft but i had a similar prob, and was plugging in keyboard when pc was on,tried plugging in keyboard when pc was off then booted it up and worked, its just a thought.

In Windows XP you use Windows Key + L to lock / unlock your keyboard.

borrow a keyboard from a friend see if that one works then you can narrow down to the your keyboard being faulty
