Keyboard not recognised

Have a problem, have an e machine pc which isn't recognising any ps2 or usb keyboard when the pc boots, which seems awefully strange to me, just removed the bios battery and leaving it over night to see if its a bios problem, anybody got any other ideas, tried 4 different keyboard using either the ps2 connection or usb connection.
PC boots to post screen but can't do anything else, because keyboard not recognised and there is no mouse option

any thoughts musch appreciated

As silly as it sounds,it could be a faulty memory stick.
Shut down and remove a stick and reboot. If no luck repeat with the other stick.
Ps2 ports can fail if a device is unplugged with the pc on although the usb ports should be ok.

Thanks for assistance but it turned out to be a faulty hard drive causing the system to hang, thought I would put the fault up for future referance

Many thanks
