Keyboard malfunction

I have a client who has a Dell desktop machine running Vista. The keyboard is a bog standard usb Dell keyboard. It has suddenly stopped working - well actually, it does work if you hold the keys down for several seconds. We have checked that the keyboard works on another machine, and ahve tried it in a different usb socket. We have checked the delays in the control panel and they are OK. We have uninstalled teh driver and rebooted. Anyone any other thoughts on a possible cause or solution?

Usual method is to refresh the USB ports by uninstalling Everything under the heading US in device manager then reboot.

However if you only have a USB keyboard mouse and no PS2 port then when windows reboots if it won't see the ports then its a real struggle without a keyboard.

Thanks. Your answer implies that this is not an unusual problem. So would your advice be to go to Device Manager then uninstall/Delete everything under the heading 'Universal Serial Bus Controllers' then reboot and hope that the situation isn't worse afterwards?

Try reinstall the Dell chipset driver and reboot PC to take effect.

The USB configuration most of time rely on the latest chipset driver.

If still the same problem, the mobo USB could be faulty.

Hope this helps!
