keyboard character problem

I have been using a USB external keyboard on my laptop. I have removed this and am using the laptop keyboard, but quite a few characters are wrongly mapped eg "0" shows as "/", "u" as "4", "i" as "5" and so on - I do recall reading somewhere that this is a not uncommon problem after unplugging a USB keyboard, and that there is a simple fix - can anybody help?

numberlock ON?

Fn function selected?

Yes, I agree with Fruit Bat /\0/\.

Whilst holding down the Fn key press NumLk.

Numlock is maybe not working. It is a combined numlock/scroll lock key. Pressing it turns scroll lock on/off the taskbar - but nothing changes to indicate numlock on or off. Caps lock works and lights an icon. There is an icon permanently lit beside the capslock icon - maybe that is the malfunctioning capslock?

Help! Thanks.

On last line I should have said malfunctioning NUMLOCK not capslock. Sorry.
