Have downloaded KB928366 but it will not install on XP Pro with service pack 2. Had to switch off manually after waiting for two hours of attempted install. The result is that this is having a virus-like effect by locking up the computer. How do I get to either install or disappear?

This update is causing a few problems click here=

Start the computer in safe mode and do a system restore to before the update.

Thanks for the help dan* + Lettervanman. After two days of frustration with my computer running at 100% cpu I took the easy way out; right clicked on the windows shield selected Custom Install and unchecked KB928366 and its 'relative' KB928365 which I had read was also causing the same problem. The computer and I are now recovering well. This route may be helpful to some other sufferers.

I don't blame you for that, but be aware that they are "critical" updates to block a security hole.

I guess Microsoft will at some point issue a fix for their fix!!
