Why is it called Windows 7 as there have been 9 versions of Microsoft win3.1,win3.11,win95,win98,win 2000,win me,win XP,Vista, and then win7, being number 9.Could they have started it in 2007, if so why release Vista- unless it was to make money? or a test version for Win7.Terry
Windows 1Windows 2Windows 3 = 3, 3.1, 3.11Windows 4 = 95 & 98Windows 5 = XPWindows 6 = VistaWindows 7 = Windows 7
Windows 4 inc METhe other 'stream' was the Windows NT and that included NT3, NT4 2000 2003 2008
Well you can put whatever logic you like to this but technically Windows 7 is 6.1 but for ease, this is how we got there.Windows 1Windows 2Windows 3 = 3, 3.1, 3.11, NT3.1, NT3.5Windows 4 = 95,98, ME, NT4.0Windows 5 = 2000, XPWindows 6 = VistaWindows 7 = Windows 7Its related to the OS kernel version numbers, for example Windows 2000 is 5.0, XP is 5.1, Vista 6.0 and Seven is 6.1 so work that one out.
7 is supposedly a lucky number and I guess MS had their fingers crossed.
According to windows own website there are up to 11 'windows' versions.Win 95 & win 98 (& win98 se) were completly different versions as is Vista and win 7.Terryclick here
