Javascript Problem

I have been trying to register with a webcam site. The process includes retyping some slightly distorted figures in a box. Every time I get 'sorry - try again'. There is a note that says Javascript must be enabled to make the page work. I know nothing about Javascript though I presume I have it. How can I find out a) if I have it, b) if it is enabled if I do and c) if I don't have it, where can I get it? I am running Windows XP with SP3.

Download Java from here.
Click on latest version. If you have it, there will be an icon in the Control Panel.
