Java Updates

Is it OK to allow automatically downloaded Java updates?
Should I leave the automatic check or turn it off?

By default Java runs an auto update once a month. It is OK to leave it running in the background. It will notify you if updates are available and ask if you you wish to install.

Once installed you can then remove any older versions from add-remove as they are no longer needed.
