Java Installations / Updates

  daba 10:38 10 Nov 2007

I have several Java programs showing in "Add/Remove Programs" :-

J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 7
Java(TM) 6 Update 2
Java(TM) 6 Update 3
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1

Are the "older" versions safe to remove, or would it be best to remove all of them, letting the system get the latest version as and when required.?

I have found in the past, that on occasions when I have removed an old Java, the one left does not alway work. If you visit the following website, you can see if you have the latest version. If not, browse to add/remove programs and delete the old versions before downloading and installing the latest version.

Delete all bar Update 3 (the latest version) from Add/Remove Programs (mine is 110MB in size).
