Is it time to change Hard Drive ?

  Eargasm 18:15 22 Aug 2009

Last few weeks i have had random lock ups sometimes after a few minutes ,sometimes after a few hours, HDD light on solid and had to restart the computer.
Hard Drive is a Seagate Barracuda ( 3 years old)
I downloaded Seatools for Dos and all tests passed

I downloaded seatools for windows and the results were.
Short DST Fail
Long DST Fail
Short Generic Pass
Long Generic Pass
However under basic tests when clicking on drive information a error message pops up " Fatal Error Occured During Inquiry" Program will end.

I am not sure if my drive is on the way out or if there is a problem with the software, is the Seatools software relible or are there any other checks i can perform to confirm a dying drive ?

Change and backup your old drive ASAP.

It looks as if it's on it's way out.

Switched on this morning and nothing, removed and tested the PSU ( 400watt) and it had died so i replaced it with a new 600 watt one.

Hard drive test still showed the fail errors so i cloned it to a new 500gb using Acronis all seems to be running fine now and i will see how it goes.

seagate tools produce a lot a false positives.

No "lockups" for the last couple of days so i guess it is sorted, I'm still not convinced there is anthing wrong with my old drive though.
