Is it ok to use a laptop on a carpet?

If I use a laptop on a carpet (which I have been), should I worry about static and heat? It's Centrino based, has an air vent on top and haven't noticed any excessive fan use. Model is Sony Vaio FS115Z.

Well i wouldn't recommend it, but if you want to you should put a book or a hard, flat surface underneath it to keep the air vents in the open.

I have taken to using a marble topped table for my lappy,as although its vents aren't obstructed using it on the floor, the wrist rests were getting quite warm, ultimately leading to the machine freezing.

I would get something like a Hair Drier, or similar machine capable of creating a strong air blast, and back blow the air passages.

The amount of fluff and dust on the carpet will gradually clog the Cooling system.

If you do this on a regular basis, you'll probably have little problem

Thanks all, I'll take your advice!

I have done it, but it's not good also think of all the dust being draged in
