Does anyone know how to put the Acronis boot image on my external HD, and how to tell my pc to boot with it if necassary...?

And does anyone know if i can put it onto a disk (cd/dvd) too, just for extra confidence? or can i only have it in one or other place?).

Thanks in advance.

If you are refering to the bottable media I have made a seperate disk to boot into but my ATI 10 disc will do the same. What version do you have.

I also ought to learn how to spell bootable!!!!! I only have the 2 Bootable disc's that I keep safe and 1 backup of my C drive that I keep up to date on a second hard drive (internal) and a backup of windows that I keep on a DVD both of which I can access with the bootable media.

After loading Acronis to your Hard Drive you can go to the Program on the Desktop and press create Boot disc

can i put the iso on my external hd aswell as a disk?

Yes, ISO as you mean a Acronis Image. ISO and Boot disc are not the same thing. You need to create the boot disc so you can load the Image from the Disc you put the Image on, after booting with the boot disc

Ah, i seem to be having another thick day. So the iso image gets put onto the bootable disk when you make it, as it needs to be there to boot up?

do i need to do anything to the settings of my pc to ensure that it will boot from the disk?

No You cannot boot direct from the Acronis Image. You create a Boot Disc So you can load the Image, from other Media

so the boot disk is made and used to boot up, then the iso image is used, which has been stored on some other media, such as an external hd? i have previously been given to believe that the whole process, from booting to applying a backup, can be accomplished just with an external hd if you so wish?

Acronis does also listy the iso image as bootable media, which is a little confusing, but i think im getting there.
