IRQ 3 Communications Port (COM2) OK

IRQ 1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard OK

i disable com port 1 and printer port because i dont use them thinking it would free up a couple of irrq's and the bios would re-assign the irq's so that i wouldn't have 5 types of hardware sharing IRQ 12,but that wasn't the case, it just removed irq 3 and irq 4 which were assigned to the com and lpt port,i have been into the section in the bios about irqs and the bios is set to auto, how can i change the bios so i can take some heat of irq 12

thanks to anyone who attempts to answer this question

i should mention that i have 6 pci slots and 1 ISA slot, i dont use the isa slot, and only use one of the pci slots for my creative sound card which at the moment is sharing the irq 12 with 4 others..

can i disable the isa and other remaining pci slots to free up resources/irq's

and if i move the sound card to a diff slot will that free up irq 12,but what will be assigned then

thanks

I was reading a thread recently about getting windows to reassign the IRQ's by altering a BIOS setting, hang on a tick, will just pop off and find it.

To try and ensure there really are no conflicts - go into the BIOS, look for the PNP/PCI setup page. make sure PNP OS installed is set to Yes. Change Reset Configuration Data to Enabled it will automatically change back to Disabled after a reboot.

alright m8

yeah i have pnp os set to yes

i don't understand your last comment

Change Reset Configuration Data to Enabled it will automatically change back to Disabled after a reboot. ?

"Change Reset Configuration Data to Enabled" ,somewhere in your BIOS should have this option.

It means you don't have to change it back to Disabled after it's done it's work - when you reboot, it automatically gets changed back to Disabled - which is the setting to run with.

.
I should have asked - what's the actual problem - IRQ sharing is normal these days, as there are nowhere near enough IRQs. What's actually going wrong - you haven't said there is a problem.

mostly out of intrest, and the second a problem i get with the system freezing..

thought i could of freed up some resources that is my intention

i dont use 5 of my pci slots, i certainly don't use the isa slot, and nor me printer port or com port..

i'll have to look for that setting later,i'm busy doing stuff at the moment!

i should of said, what does this setting do?

i do have this setting!
