Hello everybody-can anybody help with this:
New iPOD for daughter. When I try to download & install iTunes and Quicktime software for her, the installation for both fails with the following message:
"could not open key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\CURRENT VERSION\Uninstall\Quicktime Verfiy that you have sufficient access to that key or contact your support personnel"

Can anybody explain what this means & suggest a remedy? (XP Home, Norton antivirus and various spyware programmes and Windows Defender are all installed)

Thanks very much

Do you have Quicktime installed on your pc, check add/remove programs and uninstall it, if not there navigate to the registry and delete any keys that mention Quicktime in the registry, by using the find function in regedit, be careful when playing with the registry, set a system restore point before you start, also export a copy of the registry to the desktop so you can import it back if you get problems. you will find import export in the file menu of regedit.when all this is done reboot and then retry installing itunes.
to get to regedit go to Start> Run> and type regedit and hit ok
good luck dont forget precautions before starting editing registry
