I have been given a brand new i pod shuffle.

But having problems it says to incert ipod in to high power usb port2.0,
My computer is newish Dell dimension 8400 but I am no expert but I can not find anywhere to insert it. it will not fit into the usual usb ports, am I doing something wrong?

On the front of the tower on the 8400 you should have a flap which you pull up with 2 usb ports and earphone socket underneath hope that helps

not to sure what that all means mal?
the suffle should just incert in to a USB port, is there such thing as a high power usb port2.0,
and were would I find it?

usb has been updated to a faster usb 2
but all old usb will still work on usb 2
the sockets are the same
all it means is an older usb socket will download slower but it will work

just checked dell web site your 8400 is usb 2
all your usb sockets are usb 2

try the plug again remember it will only go in one way so if it does not go in turn it over by 180 degrees

When I got my shuffle I had to connect via a seperate USB cable as the USB ports at front of computer are recessed which prevented the shuffle connection engaging. If it is connecting properly to your USB port it will either be an older slower port or more likely a newer 2.0 port.

When i look in to the usb on the shuffle it is different there appears to be four pin holes.

i think the cable you have is a firewire
cable these are differant to usb
